Lonesome tonight? Head for the Spa

BRIDLINGTON is set to be all shook up when an Elvis extravaganza takes place this weekend.

The second Elvis Weekender, at The Spa Bridlington, will include Elvis speed dating sessions, which organisers hope will produce an Elvis wedding next year, and an appearance by seven-year-old Elvis impersonator Sylvian Saint-Simon, from Leamington Spa, who is being filmed for the BBC TV show Blue Peter.

A number of tribute acts will perform The King’s greatest hits and heats one and two of the European Elvis Championship will be staged.

Organised by Peter Phillips and Steve and Barbara Caprice, the event is expected to double its audience to 1,000 this year.

Mr Phillips, who founded the Porthcawl Elvis Festival, now the biggest of its kind in the world, which attracts 30,000 fans each year to the small Welsh seaside town, said Bridlington was getting into the spirit, with local beauticians providing Priscilla-style make-up and beehive hairdos.

He said: “Ticket sales are good and there’s a real buzz in Bridlington. We open the portal to a lateral universe – but a fluffy, pleasant nice universe which is full of fun people.”
