Loyal workers are rewarded for their decades of service

A TECHNICIAN who began working at Doncaster College back in 1970 has been recognised for her four decades of service.

Maureen Lynch, who works in the college’s Academy of Creative Industries, said: “I started working for the college in 1970 in the science department and I’ve seen it grow from a much smaller college to what it is now.

“I’ve really enjoyed working with the students over all these years.”

In total, 12 members of staff were rewarded at the annual Doncaster College Long Service Awards.

Meanwhile, a century of manufacturing knowledge has come to a close for two Sheffield Forgemasters’ employees.

Denis Haddon and Clifford Roe both received gift vouchers and a certificate to mark their 50 years’ each working for the company.

Mr Haddon started work at Forgemasters in 1961, progressing up through the heat treatment and hardening areas. More recently, he has mentored apprentices.

He said: “Having being at Forgemasters for 50 years, it is no surprise that the company has developed considerably. But I’ve managed to take on the challenges and even transfer some of my new skills to younger employees.”

Mr Roe, meanwhile, has spent most of his half century in the melt shop as a maintenance electrician.

He said: “Having spent 50 years working for Forgemasters, it will be a real difference to have no work to do.”

Sheffield Forgemasters chief executive, Graham Honeyman, said yesterday: “Both Denis and Clifford have given Forgemasters a combined 100 years of dedicated service which is truly remarkable achievement.”
