Mail changes posted for residents

SOME residents in an East Riding market town will get their post later, as a result of changes to Royal Mail services.

Royal Mail says they have had to revise the way it works in Beverley in the face of declining mail volumes.

The state-owned postal operator, which is slated for a sell-off in 2013/2014, said postmen would use new delivery methods and adopt revised routes over the next few weeks. They would still deliver in the morning and for a longer period during the day, with “many” continuing to get their mail by lunchtime.

Most people would not see a change but some would get it later or earlier depending on where they lived on the new delivery route. Letters are being sent to every address about the changes.

In a statement Royal Mail said: “The way in which we communicate with each other has changed dramatically.

“Unfortunately, fewer letters are now posted every day and Royal Mail needs to organise its delivery routes to be as efficient as possible.”

Last month Royal Mail defended hikes in the prices of first and second class stamps saying they were still “incredible value for money”.
