Major development changing look of city-centre skyline

WORK has begun creating a roof that will dramatically alter the skyline in Leeds city centre.

The roof will be the crowning glory in the Trinity Leeds development, a new retail development in Leeds city centre. Pictures show the difference its creation will have on the city’s skyline.

The glazed roof will cover almost 40,000 square feet and includes an atrium with a 180ft span. At its highest point it will rise to almost 100 feet above street level.

Structural engineering practice, SKM Anthony Hunts, whose portfolio includes the Eden Project, in Cornwall, has designed the lightweight roof.

The £350m Trinity Leeds centre, is the largest development outside the capital since the credit crunch and will have tenants such as Marks & Spencer when it opens in 2013.

Earlier this week Land Securities said it was making “excellent progress” with the development.

The Trinity Leeds scheme is almost 60 per cent pre-let, two years ahead of opening in spring 2013.

Land Securities’ portfolio director Gerald Jennings, speaking earlier this week, said: “We think this is a fantastic level of commitment just under two years before opening.

“Over the next few months we will announce a stream of new lettings.”
