Major sewer works in the pipeline

Work will soon be under way to give a Victorian sewer in Bradford a 21st century makeover.

The work is part of Yorkshire Water's 120m programme to upgrade its sewer network and treatment works to help further reduce the risk of flooding to hundreds of properties across the region.

From next week work will begin to renovate a 160 metre stretch of sewer under Halifax Road, Bradford, which has served the area for more than 100 years.

John Bond, of Yorkshire Water's community engagement team, said: "This sewer is being upgraded to better meet the growing demands that it is under and help to reduce the risk of sewer flooding in the local area."

The company is using pioneering 'no dig' techniques, which will mean completing all surveys and repairs without having to dig up large sections of the road. The first phase of the work involves using high pressure jetting equipment to clean the sewer before robots equipped with CCTV equipment are placed into the pipe to complete the survey.

During the second phase the sewer will be repaired using a quick and effective technique and the work is expected to be completed by December 1.
