Man, 17, found hanged in prison
A 17-YEAR-OLD prisoner has died after he was found hanging in his cell, the Prison Service said.
Jake Hardy, who was serving six months detention for affray and common assault, was found at Hindley young offenders institution in Wigan on Friday and taken to hospital, where he died yesterday morning. It is understood that he was the subject of an open suicide and self-harm document.
A Prison Service spokeswoman said: “He was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead at 8.05am on Tuesday January 24.
“The Ombudsman (PPO) will conduct an investigation.”
