Man, 54, cut with meat cleaver during attempted robbery in West Yorkshire

A teenage thug has brandished a meat cleaver and attacked a man during an attempted robbery in Huddersfield.

The 54-year-old victim was walking along Victoria Road, in Lockwood, on Monday at around 9.45pm, when one of three teenagers he passed got out a small meat cleaver and demanded his mobile phone.

The victim ran off but was chased by the suspect and suffered cuts to his arms from the knife. He escaped and no property was stolen.

The suspect was described as a white male, who was 6ft tall, around 12 to 15-years-old, of skinny build, with chin length brown hair and a round face. He was described as being quite well spoken. The other two boys stood with him were not involved and were of a similar age. 

Detective Constable Mick Cummings, of West Yorkshire Police, said: “This was a terrifying experience for the victim who sustained cuts to his arms during the incident. 

“No property was stolen in the end, but I would like to speak to anyone who saw anything in the area or has any information to help with our enquiries.”
