Man dead in Barnsley house fire

Firefighters were called to a small bungalow in Treelands, Gawber, at around 4am.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “Emergency services were alerted to a house fire in Gawber, Barnsley, at 4.05am this morning.

“A man, believed to be in his early 50s, has died. Fire investigators and police are conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.”

This morning blackened front windows could be seen at the house, with furniture on the front garden.
