Man due in court over terror claim

A man who worked at a British Airways call centre will appear in court today accused of terrorist offences.

Rajib Karim, 30, of Newcastle upon Tyne, was arrested by Scotland Yard's counter-terrorism command on February 25 at a Newcastle call centre where he worked among 800 staff dealing with bookings.

Staff can access details of thousands of flights and are familiar with basic security procedures.

He faces two charges of preparing for terrorism, one inside Britain, the second overseas, between April 2006 and last month. A third charge accused him of illegal fundraising by sending money to others who might use it for terrorism.

Karim will appear in custody before London's City of Westminster Magistrates' Court today. Scotland Yard also arrested three men in Slough, Berkshire, who were released without charge.
