Man steals £24,000 ring from jewellers

POLICE in Bridlington are appealing for help in tracing a man who stole a £24,000 ring from a jewellers.

The suspect went into Griffins jewellers in Prospect Street shortly before 1pm on Saturday and asked to see some earrings on display in the window.

A shop assistant accompanied him outside where he pointed them out and then showed them to him on a tray inside the shop.

The man knocked the tray out of the woman’s hand but asked her to wrap the earrings up and said he would be back shortly to buy them.

The woman noticed the ring was missing when she put the tray back.

A spokeswoman for Humberside Police said: “As the woman returned the items to the window she noticed a large value ring, valued at an estimated £24,000, had been stolen. The man did not return to the store and the shop assistant alerted police of the theft.”

The suspect is aged between 35 and 42, of medium build and wore a baseball cap.
