Man who confronts rowdy teenage gang has jaw broken

A MAN who was savagely beaten outside his Yorkshire home when he went outside to remonstrate with a gang of misbehaving youths told last night how he would take the same action again.

Matthew King, 27, had his jaw broken in two places after he was surrounded by nine teenagers in an alleyway next to his house in Drury Lane, Tickhill, Doncaster, as he tried to talk to them.

Mr King said he had taken action after suffering at the hands of youngsters who had continually misbehaved outside his house.

He said: “I heard a really loud banging, and because it had happened before, I went outside to see who was doing it and to ask them not to do it again.

“Before I knew it, I was surrounded by a group of teenagers, and one of them pushed me in my back knocking me down.

“I tried to get up but was knocked over again, and when I finally got to my feet one of the bigger lads just punched me in the face.

“It is not the sort of thing you expect to happen, and I am a bit more wary now, but I don’t think people should be frightened to stand up for themselves.”

“It’s not what you expect when you are sitting in your house and although I have left it to the police now, I would do the same again.”

South Yorkshire Police yesterday confirmed they were investigating the Saturday night incident and appealed for anybody with information to contact them.
