Manager stands by footballer jailed for assault
The 24-year-old, who joined the Bantams from Mansfield Town for 25,000 just a fortnight ago, is starting a 12-week prison sentence for assault.
Speight is expected to serve half of his sentence, meaning he will not be free in time to face Shrewsbury Town when the season starts on August 7.

The City manager was understandably furious, but has vowed to stand by the player on his release from jail.
Taylor said: "It is very disappointing because I didn't know anything about it. Basically, he thought the court case would be the end of it and we would never find out.
"But I won't be punishing Jake further by not allowing him to return to Bradford City.

"I am not going to name names but their example should show Jake how people can turn things round. I do, though, expect him to be grateful to Bradford City."
Bradford will not pay Speight during his time in jail. After release, his wages could be capped until he is considered fit enough for first-team selection.
