Man's body found near entrance to Sheffield park

POLICE have launched an investigation after the body of a man was found near a park in Sheffield.

The body of the middle-aged man was found by a passer-by on an open, grassed area near the entrance of Herdings Park, off Raeburn Road, in Gleadless, at around 6.45am on Sunday.

South Yorkshire Police said they were treating the death as suspicious as a matter of routine.

A post-mortem examination will be carried out at Sheffield's Medico Legal Centre to determine the cause of death.

Police and scenes of crime officers are conducting inquiries to try to establish what happened.

A police spokesman said officers believe they know who the man is but his identity has not yet been confirmed.
