Market town is on the tourist trail

ONE of Yorkshire’s biggest markets is continuing to attract visitors from across the North thanks to a new promotion.

Kirklees Council is ensuring Dewsbury Market is on the tourism trail with a new promotion aimed at coach and group visits.

On the first Wednesday of every month coach operators and group travel organisers are encouraged to pre-book their visit.

Each coach is greeted with a brief history of the market, details of Dewsbury Minster and information on what they can buy.

Each month there is free entertainment at the market, a free Dewsbury Market shopping bag per passenger, plus a stick of Dewsbury rock.

Launched earlier this month, the promotion has welcomed coaches from Liverpool, Lytham St Anne’s, County Durham and Chesterfield.

Councillor David Sheard, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said: “Few towns still have markets as large and as vibrant as Dewsbury and visitors always leave impressed by the market, the architecture of the town and the Minster.”
