maundy visit: Minster chosen for Jubilee year

THE Queen will visit York in the spring as the city celebrates its 800th anniversary during the monarch’s own Diamond Jubilee landmark year.

She will be at York Minster on April 5 to perform the annual tradition of handing out Maundy money to pensioners. The recipients are traditionally linked to the cathedral where the service is held, but this year nominees are being selected from across the country to mark the Jubilee. Her visit will also mark the 800th anniversary of York’s Royal charter.
