Medical students pedal out for high-speed ride

Medical students from Leeds are hoping to raise £40,000 with a 1,000 mile charity cycling expedition.

The 25 students from Leeds Medical School will cycle from John O'Groats to Land's End to raise funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital and Light in Africa, which cares for sick, disabled and abandoned children in Tanzania.

They are due to set off on Friday July 2 and the ambitious cyclists are then hoping to complete the ride in just 16 days, covering more than 65 miles each day. They are also organising pub quizzes, auctions, comedy nights and talent competitions to raise money for this year's appeal.
