Meet the author

One of Yorkshire's favourite authors and raconteurs, Gervase Phinn, was in Leeds at the weekend, drinking coffee with and signing books for his readers.

The million-selling former teacher and education examiner, best known for his captivating stories of life and anecdotes within the schools of the county, was at Philip Howard Books in Roundhay where he chatted with customers and signed copies of his new memoir, Road To The Dales.

Mr Phinn, a Yorkshire Post columnist, said: "I have done many signings recently and been surrounded by 'misery memoirs' on the shelves. I wanted to write about my own childhood which was near-idyllic and pay tribute to my family and the teachers that gave me such a wonderful start in life."
