Meeting to discuss broadband speed

PEOPLE and businesses in the Denby Dale area of Kirklees are being invited to a public meeting to discuss a pilot scheme for faster broadband.

Council chiefs say those who do not have access to computers and the internet are disadvantaged because they cannot find out about local jobs or access online services.

A report to members of Kirklees Council's Cabinet committee earlier this year said Denby Dale and other rural parts of Kirklees all have a number of workers who commute into the Huddersfield, Dewsbury, Batley, Leeds and Sheffield areas.

The meeting will take place tomorrow in Denby First School, Denby Lane, Upper Denby, at 7.30pm.

Representatives from Rutland Telecom and Kirklees Council will attend to give information on funding options and revised prices.

Coun Elaine Ward, Chair of the Mirfield, Denby Dale and Kirkburton Town and Valley Committee, said: "After months of research and feasibility studies we are now in a position to move forward with an achievable solution to the poor broadband speeds in the Denby Dale Ward."
