Member of the public detains man with gun on Scunthorpe residential street

A member of the public apprehended a man who was in possession of a gun on a residential street in Scunthorpe.

Officers today said that at 5.20pm on Friday they were called to reports that there was a man with a gun on East Common Lane.

A Humberside Police spokesperson said: "A member of the public disarmed the man, detained him and phoned the police. When we arrived we arrested the man for firearms offences."

The man, 54, was taken into custody and was subsequently charged with criminal damage which occurred at the police station in Scunthorpe, possession of cannabis, assault on a police office and aggravated burglary at a car sales company on Grange Lane in Scunthorpe.
