Merry Christmas? Not for crooks

PC Holly Roberts is posting Christmas cards to shoplifters, people wanted on warrants and those committing anti-social behaviour across Wakefield.

But this isn't a friendly seasonal greeting. One card warns police work 365 days a year and will be on duty over the festive season to arrest those wanted on warrant and a second says they will be watching shoplifters and people committing anti-social behaviour.

Chief Supt Marc Callaghan, Wakefield district police divisional commander, said "The Christmas period is always a good time to catch people at home. This is a good opportunity to let offenders and suspected criminals know that we won't be taking a break over Christmas – we will be continuing to work hard to track them down and prevent crime so that everyone else can have a good Christmas."
