Mill gives muffins a local flavour

Trainee miller Tom Close tries a muffin from grain milled at Worsbrough Mill Museum and produced by Louise Maddison, centre, and Nina Ramskill, who own and run Barnsley-based Cup Cake Cottage.

The sisters approached staff at the mill to see if the flour produced there would work in their range of muffins and cakes. Adam Blackwell, from the Barnsley Council museums service, said: "The wheat is sourced from local farms, all within two miles of the mill, as would have been the case way back in the 17th century when the mill was built. Now we have this selection of muffins to compliment our already very successful Worsbrough Mill Loaf.

"Cupcake Cottage are hoping to expand sales of the product to other local cafes and coffee shops and are looking to develop other goods using our flour."

The muffins will go on sale at the museum shop on Saturday and will be available throughout the summer.

Jane Galvin, commercial development manager for the museums service, added: "We would hope that other companies, restaurants and bakeries, even local supermarkets, will one day make use of this very unique and local product."
