Minister trumpets transparency of previously ‘secret’ A level data

The information published yesterday by the Department for Education gives a detailed breakdown of school, sixth form and college results for the first time.

It also shows how schools have performed in vocational qualifications.

Schools Minister Nick Gibb said: “This is the first time the subject-by-subject, grade-by-grade results of every school, sixth form and college can be revealed.

“Students and parents will have the information they need to make informed choices about which sixth form or college to attend.

“It is now possible to see which places perform best in particular subjects, for example maths or history A-level. We are opening up access to a raft of data the Department for Education previously kept secret. Today’s announcement is a major step in ensuring transparency and accountability in our public services.”

The move follows additional information which were added to last year’s league tables showing how every secondary school in the country performs at each GCSE subject.

The secondary school league tables – published in January – also give a breakdown of the exam success of pupils from deprived backgrounds and show how pupils who were classed as low, middle and high achievers in primary school go on to achieve at GCSE.
