Missing Claudia's dad pins hope on TV documentary

THE father of missing York University chef Claudia Lawrence said today he hoped a documentary about her disappearance would trigger "somebody's memory or somebody's heart".

Peter Lawrence gave details of the programme to be broadcast this summer as he took the hunt for his daughter to Glasgow.

Fifteen months after she disappeared from York Mr Lawrence, a solicitor, travelled to the city to appeal for information on Miss Lawrence's suspected murder.

Mr Lawrence, 63, spoke at Central Station where large screens next to the departure board showed a picture of the chef with the words: Where Are You?

The father, from Slingsby, North Yorkshire, has already made appeals at railway stations in London, Manchester and Edinburgh.

Miss Lawrence, who was 35 when she disappeared, failed to arrive at her work in the University of York on March 19 last year.

She was last seen near her home in Heworth the previous day and police believe she may have been harmed by someone she knew.

Her father said a half-hour documentary will be screened on Channel 4 in July or August.

Mr Lawrence said: "It's very moving. There's interviews not only with me but with Claudia's sister Ali and close friends and there are scenes of the area where Claudia worked.

"Hopefully with its very wide audience it will trigger somebody's memory or somebody's heart."

North Yorkshire Police have carried out a series of searches in connection with Miss Lawrence's disappearance, which detectives are treating as a murder inquiry.

Last month a team of about 20 officers, including divers, examined a house and the land around it in Ellerton village, East Yorkshire, around 10 miles from Heworth. No arrests were made.

Mr Lawrence handed out leaflets at Manchester Piccadilly railway station in February to mark the 11-month anniversary of his daughter's disappearance.

An appeal has also been made on BBC's Crimewatch programme.

Her father said: "I never imagined that we would be here 15 months on. Sometimes it feels like an eternity, sometimes the day she disappeared feels like it was yesterday.

"We've come to Glasgow not because there's any specific link but because we are going everywhere we can.

"I'll never give up hope and I'll never give up this campaign."
