Motorists warned of closures on A1

MOTORISTS have been warned that sections of the A1 in Yorkshire will be closed from this weekend while major repairs and maintenance work are carried out.

Highways Agency officials have confirmed a series of road closures in the region overnight from tomorrow and throughout the month for the work to be carried out on the dual carriageway.

The work involves resurfacing and replacing road markings as well as road studs on the northbound and southbound carriageways of the A1 between Ferrybridge in West Yorkshire, and Redhouse in South Yorkshire. It is due to start tomorrow and is expected to be completed by Sunday, March 30.

The Highways Agency’s project sponsor, Alan Apps, said: “This is routine work to tackle wear and tear on this section of the A1, and will result in improved journeys for road users.

“By carrying out the work overnight, we will be keeping disruption to a minimum, but drivers are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys.”

The work will take place overnight between 8pm and 6am and will require a series overnight carriageway closures, although highways officials stressed that there will be clearly-signed diversions in place to help keep disruption to a minimum.

The first closure will be tomorrow night for the northbound carriageway between Redhouse and Barnsdale, before the northbound carriageway is shut between Barnsdale and Ferrybridge overnight on Saturday next weekend. The southbound carriageway closed between Barnsdale and Ferrybridge will be closed the following day, and then the southbound carriageway closed between Barnsdale and Redhouse will be shut overnight on both Saturday, March 29, and Sunday, March 30.
