Mountaineer to lead charity walk

Mountaineer Alan Hinkes is appealing for ramblers to join him on a coastal walk that will boost the coffers of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Mr Hinkes will swap his
crampons for his hiking boots to lead the 14-mile walk between Robin Hood’s Bay and Whitby
on Sunday, June 9, to boost the coffers of the charity and he is hoping plenty of people will join him.

The mountaineer, who lives in the Northallerton area, is famous for becoming the first Briton to scale all 14 of the world’s eight 8,000-metre-plus mountains but he will be focusing on more leisurely pursuits to help the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Cystic Fibrosis is a chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system and the fund-raising endeavours along the Yorkshire coast will help those researchers who are seeking a cure for the condition.

He said: “It’s fair to say that, after family, my first love is mountaineering but walking in the countryside runs it a close second.”

It costs £10 for adults to join Mr Hinkes on the walk and £5 for children, 15 or under. To enter visit: cysticfibrosis.org.uk/whitbyrobin or call 0300 373 1100.
