Mourners pay respects to Doncaster car crash victim, 18

HUNDREDS OF mourners gathered to pay their respects to one of five Doncaster teenagers killed in an horrific car crash.

Scores of children lined the streets ahead of the service for Bartosz Bortinczak.

Crowds of former classmates, some carrying long-stem red roses, and Danum Academy headteacher Rebecca Staples were among the mourners who attended yesterday’s service at St Peter-in-Chains Church.

Floral tributes to the 18-year-old included a red football shirt with the number seven emblazoned on it. Family and friends of the former Danum Academy pupil hugged each other as the coffin was carried into the church.

An order of service featuring a picture of the teen in a navy suit read Forever in Our Hearts.

He was one of five teenagers killed when the Toyota Corolla they were travelling in was involved in a collision with another car on the A630 at Conisbrough on Saturday, November 15.

Danum Academy students Blake Cairns, Megan Storey and Jordanna Goodwin, all aged 16, and 18-year-old Arpad Kore also died in the tragedy.

Megan and Jordanna were due to be laid to rest in a joint service this morning at the Salvation Army Hall, near The Dome Leisure Centre.

Mr Kore will be laid to rest on Thursday at the Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Armthorpe Road, Doncaster. Blake’s funeral takes place on Friday at the Salvation Army Hall. Mrs Staples called the deaths of the teenagers a ‘huge loss to Doncaster’.

A 21-year-old Doncaster man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving in connection with the crash and released on bail.

The crash happened about 100 metres from the scene of a crash in 2011 in which three teenagers died. n Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call South Yorkshire Police on 101.
