Move to throw light on coast secrets

ALMOST £50,000 has been secured in Lottery funding to showcase the heritage of one of the most famous parts of North Yorkshire’s coastline.

The project by the Geology Trust has been made possible thanks to the Heritage Lottery Fund and involves the community of Robin Hood’s Bay and surrounding villages.

Mike Windle, director of North East Yorkshire Geology Trust said: “It’s brilliant news for the trust to be involved with our own community, to discover and share more secrets in the landscape of Robin Hood’s Bay with locals and visitors alike.”

The project will provide over a period of 18 months an Earth Heritage booklet for the area as well as events involving local primary schools and youth groups and a Victorian Geologists travelling show.

On Saturday, July 23, the trust will launch the Heritage Lottery Fund project, A Bay full of Heritage, at the Grosvenor Hotel in Robin Hood’s Bay at 11.30am.

Trust leaders hope the hotel presentation will encourage people to get involved in the shaping of the project through walks and trail testing and other activities.
