Move to bring empty homes into use

COUNCIL bosses in Doncaster are seeking potential landlords to help them bring empty and derelict homes back into use.

The authority says it wants to help reduce the number of empty properties across Doncaster, and hopes to commission people to renovate empty houses and bring them back into use as affordable housing.

Potential investors are being invited to an event running from 10am to 12.30pm on Friday, September 30 at the Mansion House.

Doncaster Council’s cabinet member for housing, Coun Ray Mullis, said: “We want to hear from landlords who would be interested in working with us to bring empty properties back into use for social rent.

“This event will be an opportunity to explore opportunities to reduce the numbers of empty homes.”

Those interested in the scheme will receive financial help and will also be given access to more than 14,000 potential tenants on Doncaster Council’s waiting list.

Management of the properties will be organised through St Leger Homes, which can include a rent collection service, tenancy checks and access to a 24-hour repair service.
