MP turns the spotlight on global poverty

Mp Fabian Hamilton teamed up with several Leeds-based charities to run a market stall in the city and help raise awareness of global poverty issues.

The politician spent time selling staple food from across the world, as he helped launch the ‘Enough Food for Everyone IF’ campaign, the largest coalition of its kind in the UK since Make Poverty History in 2005.

The campaign is being spearheaded in Leeds by Christian Aid.

Alex Jones, the charity’s regional co-ordinator for Yorkshire, said: “The IF campaign aims to tackle the root causes of hunger and poverty, causes such as corporate tax dodging.

“People across Yorkshire have shown significant support for campaigns like this before. If we join together again we can push for change to ensure there’s enough food for everyone.”

Mr Hamilton, Labour MP for Leeds North East, said: “I am proud that UK governments over many years have not lost sight of the contribution our country should be making.”
