Alina Shah, 10, and her eight-year-old brother Aman, died after being trapped in the house.

Asjid Mahmood, 21, appeared before Bradford Magistrates on Saturday charged with two counts of murder. He was remanded in custody and will face Bradford Crown Court later today.

An 18-year-old man arrested in connection with the blaze remains on bail.

The children's aunt, Nadia Naqui, said the youngsters had high hopes for the future.

Speaking at a press conference, she said: "Aman and Alina made me the proudest auntie in the world as they were truly angels in every sense.

"Aman aspired to be a footballer and Lina a doctor and will never have the chance to fulfil their dreams.

"They were bright and talented and, most importantly, good kids."

Detective Superintendent Bill Shackleton told the press conference Alina was pronounced dead at the scene of the fire while Aman was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Post-mortem examinations found the children both died as a result of inhalation of fumes from the blaze which was started deliberately, Mr Shackleton said.
