Murder probe after fan's hair set alight during Leeds Motorhead concert

A MURDER investigation was launched today after a man was beaten to death following a Motorhead concert in Leeds city centre last night.

The attack, on the Headrow, is believed to have followed an altercation at the O2 Academy concert venue.

Police called to the scene found 44 year-old Andrew Crawford with serious injuries. He died later at Leeds General Infirmary.

Police said Mr Crawford, who was manager of a builder's merchant and lived at Wesley View, Pudsey, Leeds, had been struck on the head several times. Two other men, now being hunted by police, were seen running off into nearby Cookridge Street.

Mr Crawford, a father of one, was with a cousin who was also injured. His condition is not said to be serious.

Police believe the incident is connected to an earlier altercation during the Motorhead concert, in which a friend of Mr Crawford had his hair set alight by someone standing nearby.

Det Supt Paul Taylor, leading the inquiry, said: "There will have been around 2,000 people in the O2 Academy and someone must have seen Mr Crawford's friend's hair being set alight. If you can help identify this person, please get in touch."
