A MURDER investigation has been launched after a man died in a shooting incident.

Three people have been arrested by South Yorkshire Police in connection with the shooting and officers have been conducting searches in the area.

A police spokesman said the man would not be formally identified until after a post mortem examination had taken place.

Anyone who was in the Spital Hill area in the early hours of yesterday with information that could assist detectives with their investigation is urged to contact South Yorkshire Police on 0114 2202020 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Authorities in Sheffield have been working together to tackle gang and gun violence following the conclusion of Operation Mach earlier this year, which was launched after the murders of teenagers Tarek Chaiboub and Jonathan Matondo, who were both shot dead in disputes involving so-called “postcode” gangs.
