Music festival tries to ease traffic queues

LEEDS Festival organisers have revealed details of the traffic “masterplan” designed to keep drivers moving during the run-up to the annual rock music event.

Tens of thousands of fans will start descending on the site at Bramham Park, near Wetherby, next Wednesday.

Measures being taken to minimise disruption include directing festival traffic from junction 45 of the A1(M) to Bramham Park via local access routes such as West Woods Road and Paradise Way.

The plan will also see an additional route to the site from junction 44 of the A1(M) via the A64 westbound on Thursday, expected to be the busiest day for festival traffic.

The A64 eastbound will also be closed to through traffic near the Fox and Grapes pub from midnight on Wednesday until 5am on Friday.

Bramham Park’s campsites open at 2pm on Wednesday to “early bird” ticket holders. The main entertainment at the Festival Republic-organised event runs from next Friday until Sunday.
