Mysteries of the mind...

An exhibition which ponders the human mind and its intricacies opens tomorrow at Beverley Art Gallery.

Metalworks by Hilary Cartmel are featuring in the exhibition, called It’s All in the Mind, and the sculptures – which include motifs such as heads, birds, nests and plants – have a recurring theme that abilities are a passing gift and age brings loss and failure as well as wisdom and insight. The artist has produced a range of public commissioned works, which include a series of huge metal screens at Rotherham’s transport interchange.

Curator Sally Hayes, pictured, said: “The sculptures are beautifully crafted, have intriguing and poetic titles such as Head with Empty Nest and December Gardener Dreaming of Spring and are sure to appeal to a wide range of visitors.”
