New CCTV footage shows Leeds bus stop rapist walking to scene of crime

The victim, an 18-year-old woman, was attacked by the man as she waited at a bus stop in Beeston Road, near to the junction with Tempest Road, at about 10.50pm on Friday, March 6.

She was dragged from the bus stop into a nearby garden and struck over the head numerous times with a large stone before being seriously sexually assaulted. She received serious head injuries and a fractured hip.

Last week edited CCTV footage of the attack was released, with the victim’s consent, as part of ongoing work to keep the appeal for information at the forefront of people’s minds.

Officers have continued trawling CCTV cameras in the area and have identified new footage of the suspect.

Detective Superintendent Nick Wallen, of West Yorkshire Police Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said: “The images show the man heading to the crime scene shortly before the attack. He is seen walking along Cemetery Road from the direction of Holbeck and the M621 motorway. He then turns right onto Beeston Road before approaching the victim.

“As with the footage we released of the attack, it is not of sufficient quality to identify him directly but it should help to build a more detail picture of this man and his movements in the moments leading up to the attack.

“I would ask that people look carefully at these images and put them together with the e-fit image, the previously released CCTV footage and the physical description we have given.

“One thing that stands out from the new footage is that the man has a very distinctive walk, possibly a limp.

“I want people to think about whether these various elements match anyone they may have seen in the area or if they have any suspicions about someone they know.

“The description remains of him being of Pakistani or Middle Eastern origin, aged in his early twenties, slim, with receding black hair. He was wearing dark clothing and possibly a light blue top with a hood.

“We have had an excellent response from the public following our previous appeals for information and we continue to urge anyone who has any information that could assist the investigation to get in touch immediately.

“Officers from the local neighbourhood policing are maintaining increased patrols in the area to provide visible reassurance to the community and are working closely with key contacts in the community to keep people informed as the investigation progresses.”
