New home for Brigg auctionhouse

An auctionhouse in Brigg is closing down - to be replaced by a new centre six miles away.

Brown and Co have sold their saleroom business, based in the town, to industrial auctioneers CJM Asset Management.

The current saleroom will be replaced by one more than two-and-half-times bigger on the edge of Scunthorpe.

Brown & Co partner Philip Dunn said: “We have had six very successful years. Auctions have broken all previous records but the bottom line is that we do not see antiques and fine art auctioneering as a core activity for the firm and hence the decision to sell the business on.”

The final antiques auction takes place this Saturday.

CJM director Paul Cooper, who is to head the company’s new antiques and fine art division, said the new premises would be one of the largest provincial auction centres in the country and also more accessible than the centre in Brigg.

“The new site, at Ginetta House on Dunlop Way, will provide a very fine new home for the antiques and fine art saleroom,” he added.

The first antiques auction at the new centre is scheduled for Saturday December 3.
