New HQ to celebrate firm’s 150th year

A FIRM which has supplied coal and other carbon-based products from a site in a Pennine town since 1863 has unveiled plans to build a new headquarters to mark its 150th anniversary.

James Durrans and Sons, which is based in Penistone, near Barnsley, has appointed Leeds-based JPG to complete the 11,200 sq ft modern building on the site where the business was founded.

David Allwood at JPG said a special foundation had been designed for the site, adding: “The existing site topography presents significant challenges in that the proposed building is located on a steep sloping site and is partially set below ground.”

Chris Durrans, managing director at Durrans and Sons said: “Despite site difficulties the consulting team has arrived at a superb concept that perfectly suits our aspirations as a business.”

The building is expected to be complete in the autumn.
