New parking restrictions for port

North Yorkshire County Council has confirmed that a package of measures is due to be introduced in the coming months once a public consultation has been completed. The plans are on public display at Whitby Library, and the new regulations will be adopted unless there are any objections.

Alterations to parking restrictions in some parts of the town were initially suggested as part of a park-and-ride scheme for Whitby. The proposed changes received such strong public support that the alterations are due to be introduced ahead of the wider scheme.

The measures are contained in 13 Traffic Orders which are designed to alleviate a host of parking issues, including redundant bus stops, alterations and extensions to double yellow lines, and changes to the one-way system around the Royal Hotel.

North York Moors National Park Authority gave its backing last month to a planning application submitted by the county council for the 450-space park-and-ride facility on the outskirts of Whitby.
