New school given planning go-ahead

WORK is expected to start on Sheffield's new Forge Valley Community School after councillors granted planning permission for the scheme.

It is expected the school will be available from the start of the September term in 2011, replacing the Myers Grove and Wisewood schools.

The changes provoked controversy when they were first suggested but the governing body for the new school said it was "delighted" with the development.

It means building work can go ahead on the main school building, a sports block and sports centre, along with car parking and landscaping

Chairwoman of the governors, Alison Piper, said: "Although the closure of both Myers Grove and Wisewood schoolsis regrettable, we have to embrace the changes for the sake of our future generations.

"We can finally make real progress in creating a school which has been carefully considered and where every attention has been given to ensure safety and environmental measures have been incorporated into its design.

"It is time to move forward from the planning stage andbuild a school which is both 'fit for purpose' and provides the educational needsfor allour future learning community," she said.
