Northern Ballet leaps to small screen success
The awards, which will be shown on Sky Arts at 8pm, recognise British achievements in the arts and are the latest accolade for the ballet.

Hide AdAnnounced at a ceremony in London, Northern Ballet’s 1984 was nominated alongside The Royal Ballet and Lost Dog.
The ballet, which has also been nominated for a Manchester Theatre Award. premièred in Leeds in September 2015 and has since toured the UK, closing in London at the end of May.
The production, choreographed by Jonathan Watkins, was screened on BBC Four at the end of February 2016 and can be viewed in full online on BBC Arts.

Hide AdNorthern Ballet’s artistic director David Nixon said: “It is an incredible honour to have won the dance award at the South Bank Sky Arts Awards.
“We pride ourselves on bringing captivating and original performances to audiences throughout the UK and this award is a significant recognition of the quality of our productions, our innovation in our chosen art form and the high standard achieved by all of our performing artists.”
The awards, which are unique in celebrating the arts in their entirety and were announced on Sunday, include 10 categories such as opera, comedy and TV drama.

Hide AdNext season Northern Ballet will perform Wuthering Heights at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in September. This will be followed by a national tour of Jean Christophe Maillot’s Les Ballets de Monte Carlo’s production of Romeo and Juliet including performances in Sheffield and Bradford. David Nixon’s Beauty and the Beast will also culminate in performances at Leeds Grand Theatre from December 2016.
