Nurse cleared as police end investigation into ‘inappropriate’ behaviour

POLICE are to take no further action after investigating allegations of “inappropriate” behaviour by a nurse at a Yorkshire hospital.

North Yorkshire Police were called in after an alleged incident at Scarborough Hospital on Thursday, August 1.

Details of the allegations were not revealed but were understood to involve a male nurse and a female patient in her 80s.

It is not clear whether a complaint was made by the patient, but the matter was referred to the force by the hospital once its authorities were made aware.

A spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Police said: “We have carried out a thorough investigation and are satisfied that no offences have been committed.

“We won’t be taking any further action.”

No arrests were made but the nurse was suspended by York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust while the investigation was carried out.

He is now expected to resume his duties, a spokeswoman for the trust said.

“We expect the member of staff to return to work as there’s no case to answer,” she said.

The trust took over Scarborough and Bridlington hospitals in July last year, when it acquired the Scarborough and North East Yorkshire Healthcare NHS Trust.
