Nursery worker bailed as police probe allegations of assault on child

A WOMAN has been arrested and released on police bail following allegations that an assault took place on a child at a York nursery.

Yesterday, the nursery confirmed a member of staff had been suspended while investigations into the incident take place.

The incident is alleged to have taken place at Kaleidoscope Nursery, in Garden Street, The Groves.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said the alleged victim was a child and added: “North Yorkshire Police can confirm that a 23-year-old woman has been arrested following an allegation of assault at Kaleidoscope Nursery in The Groves area of York.

“The woman has been released on police bail as inquiries into the incident continue,” the spokesman added.

Kaleidoscope said in a statement that as a result of its safeguarding procedures a member of staff at its nursery in The Groves had been suspended.

“The incident in question is currently the subject of a police investigation and we are unable to comment further,” it said.

“We are working closely with all relevant agencies including the police and the local authority.

“We take our safeguarding responsibilities extremely seriously and the well-being of the children in our care is of paramount concern,” the statement added.
