Objectors cite road safety fears in bid to block plan for school and mosque

Members of Bradford Council’s Area Planning Panel (Bradford) will be asked for permission to change the use of the site in Pasture Lane, Clayton, to be used by children aged from four to 14 years old, when they meet on Thursday.

Clayton Parish Council has raised a raft of issues including concerns about parking provision at the site and congestion on roads and pavements.

It claims the extended opening times would “cause a nuisance to local residents.”

Bradford Council has also received six letters of support and 102 objections.

Supporters have said that a mosque – which would benefit the local community – is needed in Clayton and claim the parking is “more than sufficient”.

But critics fear pedestrian safety would be put at risk and have concerns about the traffic generated.

Councillors will be advised to refuse planning permission.

A report, which will be considered by the panel, says: “The proposed use of the site for an educational establishment will lead to an increase in the intensity of use of the site, whose parking layout lacks turning or manoeuvring space. The layout will therefore encourage vehicles to park on, or reverse into or out of Pasture Lane near a blind bend to the detriment of highway safety.”
