Olympics fans’ festival plan

THOUSANDS of Olympics fans are set to converge on Sheffield’s Don Valley this summer for a three-day festival of music and sport.

A free “Fans’ Festival” will be held at Don Valley Stadium and Bowl on August 3, 4 and 5, featuring a big screen showing live events from the Olympics.

The weekend will include the finals of the swimming, cycling and rowing; high-profile athletics events including the 100m men’s final; and it could also see Sheffield’s own Jessica Ennis going for gold in the heptathlon final.

Steve Brailey, chief executive of Sheffield International Venues, said: “It would be fantastic if Jess Ennis could win the gold watched by thousands of people at Don Valley Stadium, where she first started training.”
