More than 500 people have joined a Facebook group, leaving messages of support and photographs. Friends have also been distributing leaflets.

Mr Sleigh, an engineering draughtsman, was last seen at The Guanabara Bar in Parker Street, Holborn.

He was caught on CCTV walking towards Oxford Street at 1.20am. Police said he has not used his bank accounts since.

His sister Catherine Booth said: "It's so scary to hear that his bank account is untouched.

"But at this stage of the search any information is welcome. It feels like we could be a step closer to finding Johnny."

A website set up to assist the search said members of his family in Waimate, Canterbury, New Zealand, were "very worried" about his welfare.
