At a time of unparalleled financial crisis for culture, this enchanting venue is making the most of enforced restrictions by replacing its seating and auditorium views that to a generous £375,000 donation from the Hamish Ogston Foundation.

This means that theatre-goes can be assured of the best seats in the house – literally – when it is safe for them to be welcomed back.

All the theatre now needs to do is invite Jake Berry, the former Northern Powerhouse Minister, to the opening night after his disparaging comments in Parliament this week about culture.
