THE triathletes Alistair and Jonny Brownlee remain Yorkshire role models like no other.

Down-to-earth born winners who love their county, their humanity – and willingness to help others – came to the fore in 2016 when Alistair, the double Olympic champion, virtually carried his ailing brother over the line in a selfless act of sportsmanship which won the hearts of the world.

How fitting, given the power and reach of their respective social media feeds to promote Yorkshire,, that the brothers are now teaming up to launch a new campaign to support the county’s cafes, and similar ventures, in need of a Brownlee-like lift following the lockdown.

Backed by Yorkshire Tea, not only will the initiative, called The Cafes are Open, help promote the tea rooms that have fed and watered the brothers during their training sessions, but it’s a chance to inspire others to embrace both sport and the great outdoors.

It’s certain to be another winner – just like the brilliant Brownlees.
