Our seas in trouble on World Ocean Day – The Yorkshire Post says

BORIS Johnson continues to hail Brexit as an unique chance “to take back control of our waters and fishing” when Britain fully leaves the European Union at the end of this year with – or without – a trade deal.

Yet it is even more fundamental and profound than this. It is an opportunity to become fully responsibility for the marine environment, the so-called ‘blue belt’ around Britain’s unrivalled coastline.

This follows a year-long investigation which found that increasing the level of protection by forbidding fishing, dredging and anchoring would improve biodiversity if “Highly Protected Marine Areas” were implemented at locations such as Flamborough Head.

Published to coincide with World Ocean Day, it’s a chance for the Government to prove that its commitment to the environment runs deep – literally – and extends beyond the slogans and soundbites that have come to define politics and policy.
