Is there no one in agriculture, politics or any decision-making position who puts the only place we have to live at the top of the priority list –planet Earth?
We live on, are fed by and kept comfortable by a live, loving and extremely generous planet, yet we have over-used and abused it until it is now in imminent danger of no longer able to support any life at all due to the massive pollution of air, soil and water. It never ceases to amaze me that only a tiny minority can see how close we are to destroying that truly wonderful gift by our constant, non -top pursuit of the three Cs – comfort, convenience and cash.
Research has proved how close we are to total extinction, yet the three Cs are still the main concern. What utter fools we are.

READER Edna Austin refers to practising Christian Theresa May’s singing of All Things Bright and Beautiful (The Yorkshire Post, May 17). I wonder; does she include the verse which I recall from 1950s school assemblies: ‘The rich man in his castle/The poor man at his gate/He made them high or lowly/He ordered their estate’? From this, may we assume that tax-dodging, zero hours contracts, food banks etc are part of God’s will and nothing to do with politics?

THE UK election campaign is beginning to look like an obscenity. Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn are debating how to spend a £700bn national budget. Uhuru Kenyatta, in London for the Somalia conference, has a budget of $20bn (that’s right, $20bn!) and a major food and water crisis (again!). Anyone for Kenyan tea or coffee?

THE Liberal Democrat election manifesto demonstrates how irresponsible and untruthful Tim Farron really is. He claims he accepts the EU referendum result, but pledges a second vote if he doesn’t like the deal Theresa May gets. Well, as a born-again European Union fanatic, he never would be satisfied, would he? He has absolutely no allegiance whatsoever to the British people; his aim is for us is to continue funding the wasteful EU cabal.

IF Labour nationalise the railways, does that mean we’ll get the Scarborough Flyer back in service? That would take traffic off the A64. A grand dream if it is true!
