Admiration for treetop protest

From: Barry Foster, Manor Cottages, High Stakesby, Whitby.

Whether you agree with him or not, I have the upmost admiration for the young man squatting in the tree at Irton, Scarborough. He simply has to be admired.

It really is time there were more like him sticking up for the rights of the everyday person. After all, no-one else does.

As for politicians, both local and national, they are in the business for just one thing. Themselves. And no-one can convince me otherwise.

The spokesmen for the local authorities beggar belief by their arrogance.

Well done young man, that’s what I say.

Bring down the human bat

From: Ken Holmes, Cliffe Common, Selby, York.

THE clown who has taken refuge in a tree at Irton, near Scarborough, has taken on the role of a human bat to try and prevent the tree from being felled.

Because of health and safety reasons I wouldn’t be allowed to do it, but if I had my way, I would put a few bales of straw around the tree, to soften the fall, and cut it down with him up it.

CAN I say how much I appreciate the railways now I am very old and do not drive from Yorkshire to Cheshire as I used to?

In two hours and three trains, I arrive at my Cheshire station in good order and am even helped with my luggage on and off the Virgin Express I use from Manchester Piccadilly.

Three cheers for all the staff who make my trips enjoyable.

Short warning

From: Jeremy Kilner, Choppards Mill, Holmfirth.

Perhaps the expression: “Beware Greeks bearing gifts” should now be shortened to “Beware Greeks”?
